Top 3 Tennis apps

Anyone for tennis? With Wimbledon swinging to its conclusion this Sunday, you’re probably in the mood to get a racket out and go rally down the local courts. But, if you don’t want to miss all the great matches, then you may want to settle down with these three tennis apps that we’ve featured in Free App Magic over the past year to get into a virtual sweat with.

Stick Tennis

First up, we’re serving you a game from the makers of legendary Flash powered time waster Stick Cricket. Stick Tennis is a cartoony take on tennis, getting you scampering around a cel shaded court and timing shots perfectly to bamboozle your opponents.

Where Stick Tennis excels is in how simple it is. Every shot is powered by a swipe on the screen meaning that you can backhand, forehand and lob the ball in absolute ease. It makes the game really simple to pick up, meaning you’ll be playing with the grace of Roger Federer about ten minutes into the game.

Packed with real players, a variety of courts and tons of replayability, Stick Tennis is perfect for those of you wanting to get a match going with minimum hassle.

Real Tennis

Ok, so we all love a simple to play game. But what about the dedicated tennis fans out there who want a deeper game to get their teeth into: what can they play? Fortunately for those players, GameLoft have the answer in the form of their game Real Tennis.

Like Stick Tennis, the game boasts a number of courts and surfaces to try your skills out on. But, unlike its more simple rival, Real Tennis throws you into the professional game with its Career mode. Starting as a lowly amateur, you’re challenged to rise up to the number 1 slot on the professional tour, forcing you to use all your skill to defeat your opponents.

With more complicated and detailed controls than Stick Tennis, Real Tennis is the real deal for tennis aficionados across the world.

Stick Man Tennis

Not sure whether you want the simplicity of Stick Tennis or the complexity of Real Tennis? Then Stick Man tennis may well be the game for you, offering options for casual or hardcore gamers to get their teeth into.

Now I know what you’re thinking – this looks even more cartoony than Stick Tennis. And you’d be right there. Made by the guy behind Rope ‘N’ Fly, Stick Stunt Biker and Stick Baseman, the simple stick based graphics does make the game look easy. And for those of you who want a relaxed time, you can get it here. In the easiest mode, you don’t have to control the action beyond timing when you hit your shots and directing the ball which means you can become a pro in five minutes easily enough.

But, for those of you out for a challenge, you can up the ante by changing the controls so you actually control your character; forcing you to play with a bit more guile. And, with 64 tournaments to choose from and 5 difficulty levels, there is more than enough depth here to keep hardcore players busy.
