The Latin American app market is flourishing, showing a rapid growth on the penetration of smartphones. Free App Magic is the latest app to benefit from this increase in activity, as last week saw our key user acquisition platform gain considerable traction in Latin America, allowing us to provide great visibility and higher volumes of quality users for clients looking to make an impact in this growing market.
While our flagship apps enjoy an extensive following in over 150 territories across the globe, demand from users in Mexico and Colombia over the course of July has seen our premier app discovery platform, Free App Magic, rocket to the top of the App Store in both countries!
With over 100,000 new installs in the space of two weeks, Free App Magic scaled the App Store charts and emerged as the number one app in both the ‘Lifestyle’ and ‘Top Overall’ App Store categories in the prominent Latin American countries of Mexico and Colombia.
Our significant increase in daily active users in Mexico is particularly positive, as Mexico is currently one of the largest growth markets in the app industry. With an estimated year-on-year growth of 36%, revenues generated in Mexico during 2011 were almost exactly in line with reported revenues in the U.S.. The Mexican app market is also more sustainable than others of the same size, with app sales showing less of a decline year-on-year than app markets in the U.S. and other main territories.
Although several prominent countries in the Latin American app market are already flourishing, industry studies forecast a dramatic increase in mobile ownership and app use across the area over the next three years. GSMA estimate that by 2015, 7 of every 10 phones sold in Latin American territories will be smartphones, and that these regions will account for more than 750 million mobile connections, with Mexico, Brazil and Argentina leading the way. Tablets, iPads and other ‘smart’ devices will follow the same trend, as accessing the web through other portals sees a similar increase in popularity.
While an increase in the use of smart devices is positive for developers looking to promote their apps in this untapped market, the growing availability of mobile media will undoubtedly make reaching the right kind of user more difficult. Luckily, our recent boost in users will not only help us to expand our presence in the emerging Latin American market, but will also allow us to deliver greater volumes of un-incentivised, high quality downloads in these territories.
