Focus on Android
With double the revenue generation of Android, app developers have traditionally focussed on iOS. This will change in 2014. If you read our recent blog, you will know that Android is catching up and will force app developers to reassess their strategy. In 2013 Apple App Store had risen from $15 million per month to $18 million but Android showed astonishing growth from $3.5 to $12 million in the same period. Google Play has now taken over Apple in the volume of apps downloaded and with 81% smartphone sales market share, the revenue opportunities for app developers with Android in 2014 will be massive. - Emmanuel Carraud, CEO
Wear it
If you followed the goings on at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas you will know that wearable tech and the ‘Internet of Things’ dominated the headlines. CES is a good barometer for the coming year’s technology trends and wearable and smartphone/tablets connected gadgets look set to be massive in 2014. It means these gadgets will require apps to facilitate features, functionalities and data gathering providing app developers with new platforms to create apps for. - Ahmed Magdy, COO
Educate the kids
A recent article by The Guardian reported that tablet ownership by kids has almost doubled, helped no end by the emergence of more affordable Android tablets from the likes of Tesco, Argos and Aldi (this supermarket broke the sub £100 price mark). While parents may be worried about their children becoming addicted to these gadgets, some pre-school establishments are using tablets as learning tools. Instead of seeing the tablet as an evil, parents and school wills use interactive and learning educational apps even more in 2014, so expect massive growth in this app category - Andrea Topet, Head of PR and Comms
