Our Survey Said?

During April, MagicSolver ran a user survey on our range of recommendation apps, with particular focus on our flagship product Free App Magic (FAM). The response from our loyal user base was strong, with 50% answering our questions and we were able to glean a lot of information about user interest from the results.

Games leading the way
MagicSolver recommends and promotes all types of apps within Free App Magic but certain categories prove more popular than others. Unsurprisingly the Games category is the biggest draw with 80% of users showing an interest. This is followed by Entertainment (this includes TV and video apps and humour app), at 60% and Music apps at 40%. One category showing a rise is Education. This wasn’t far behind Music in interest for our users, demonstrating the growing importance of both categories for developers in the Apple App Store.

Mind your language
English was the most popular language with 33% of our users. Spanish and French each grabbed about a seventh of overall share, demonstrating the global reach of the apps into South America and parts of Africa as well as Europe.

Age difference
There was no gender bias with FAM users with a male/female 50% spilt throughout the results but age groups provided an interesting insight with the 26-39 year old category being the most prolific users of Free App Magic. Under-17 year olds were the next highest with just under a third of the share, with 18-25 years olds gaining a similar slice of the pie. What is clear is that the FAM apps deliver the difficult to reach demographic of young people that interact with multiple kinds of media. Apps are of significant interest to them and FAM provides an effective way to reach them.

Devices used
The iPhone unsurprisingly dominated as the most used device amongst our users, with just over 50% of the share. iPad takes a third and the iPod the rest. Within each device category the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 proved the most used of the Apple smartphones, perhaps hinting that adoption of the iPhone 5 has not been as significant as the previous incarnations. iPad Mini Wi-Fi was the most popular used ‘tablet’ and the 4th Generation iPod a clear favourite within the iPod range.

New users
Since last month Free App Magic welcomed more than 130,000 new users through organic growth and cross promotion and this growth has been a continued trend since its inception. Through our range of products, MagicSolver is able to offer developers a global platform for apps to be promoted and this survey insight into user behaviour and interest can help us and app developers generate improved downloads and deliver customers with significant life time value.
